Also known as a dutch gag, the rings offer leverage options to increaseseverity. The french link reduces the nutcracker action and pinching on the horse's tongue which encourages it to relax

Continental bits work by raising the bit up in the horses mouth similarly to a conventional gag, however with a continental bit there is a limit to how far the bit can be raised which lessens the severity of the bit. Poll pressure can be achieved with the continental bit by using the lower rings of the dutch gagwhich ideally should be used in conjunction with two reins to ensure a correctcontact which can be maintained on the snaffle rein without poll pressure whennecessary.

The cheek of the jointed 4 ring dutch gag is made from a seriesof steel rings, the main snaffle ring with two smaller rings above andbelow, useful for horses that may need the added poll pressure of afurther lower ring in certain circumstances, using the lowest ring for optimum strength. When using the 4 ring gag correctly, it should be used with two reins, one on the mainsnaffle ring, and a second on one of the lower smaller rings. This bit isoften only used with one rein on one of the lower rings, but ideally if only one reinis to be used the bit should be used with roundings to achieve a good contact with the horses mouth.

Available in 5" or  5.5".

Please note that bits which have had the tags removed or have been in contact with the horses mouth cannot be returned for health & safety reasons.
