This bit works primarily on the tongue. The centre plate is angled and flat edged, causing it to dig into the horses tongue when a strong contact is taken. It can be useful for strong horses or those that pull.
The Dr Bristol appears very similar to a french link as they both have a flat plate in the middle, however the Dr Bristol snaffle is at the more severe end of the bitting spectrum. The centre plate in a Dr Bristol eggbutt is angled and flat edged, meaning that it digs down onto the horses tongue when a strong contact is applied. This bit is used on strong horses or those that pull as tongue pressure is preferable to a bit that uses a large amount of bar pressure in most cases, the tongue cannot be deadened in the same way that a horses mouth bars can be over time which eliminates the risk of the horse becoming 'hard mouthed'.
This bit is dressage legal.
Available in 5"or 6" also available with a standard size plate on a separate listing.
